On March 31, members from the Green Team organized an eco-friendly day to motivate children at the Abington Public Library.

The Green Team President, Megan McHugh, said “the primary goal was to make sure the kids had a blast while learning about dangers that threaten our environment and how to help prevent them.”

The day was filled with activities the kids could participate in that were both fun and educational. A member of the Green Team, Nick Morrison, read “The Lorax” to the whole group of children who attended. Following that, Green Team members divided and set up several stations. A craft activity allowed kids to make picture frames out of recycled materials, in addition to that there was a recycling relay race and a station for kids to plant their own sunflowers and take them home in milk cartons.

It proved to be a very successful day with a turnout of twenty-nine kids, the largest turn out the library has ever had. This was very inspirational for the kids to learn the ways to help the environment in preparation for Earth Day.

Megan McHugh stated “We had a lot of fun and the kids did too. Overall, it was definitely successful.”

The Green Team at Abington High School was started by the chemistry teacher, Mr. Crane. Mr. Crane stated “I think it is important for our school to learn ways that are simple to help the environment. We have made changes to the school and are now stretching out to the community. So far it has been widely successful.”

There are many ways in the community to take steps to clean up our environment. Single measures like recycling, organizing events and switching to reusable bags can all help. Recently, the community is very involved in going green. The streets are litter-free and everyone does their part to clean.

The acting talent found throughout Abington High School, is not confined within the walls of the building. It spreads to places like the internet too. Senior Vicky Lynch and our very own nurse, Ms. Theresa Chiasson were cast in “Family Problems,” a web series that premiered in February this year.
“Family Problems “is a show with an eerie twist. It features a seemingly normal family that hides a dark secret. They’ve hidden a dead body in the woods. Each episode is told in flashbacks from three time periods; the 1970’s to the 1980’s, 2012, and the 2030’s to the 2040’s. Ms. Chiasson plays Molly Solloway, a married mother of two. Lynch plays Jennifer Grady, Molly’s daughter.
Lynch is very excited with the success of the web series. “What is most exciting is being able to see the final product; we filmed different scenes randomly, usually not in chronological order. It is exciting to see how everything comes together,” said Lynch.
The web series is produced by Seth Chitwood, a 21-year-old senior at Rhode Island College. Lynch and Ms. Chiasson say they enjoy working with him.
Ms. Chiasson is also the producer of the show. She takes charge and assists people with what they are supposed to be doing. “I am often known as the ‘mother hen’ of the group. I usually am the one to make sure everyone is excited and ready for action,” said Chiasson.
Many people, not just the actors, were excited for the show to be released. Before the show even premiered, it was already receiving attention. Cast members have done a press conference and read-through of the first four scenes to students studying film at Rhode Island College.
“Family Problems” episodes can be found on their YouTube channel (also titled “Family Problems.”). There is a new episode every Sunday. More information about “Family Problems” can be found on their Facebook page. To this upcoming web series, donations as small as one dollar can be submitted at http:/indiegogo.com/familyproblems/ to help provide food for the actors, props, and details to help make the show even more chilling.
Make sure to tune in, this show is sure to be a scream.

Legally Blonde Legacy

Legally Blonde Legacy
Preview for Abington High School Musical
By: Amanda Hayes

Recently, the high school hallways have been filled with exuberantly colored flyers advertising Legally Blonde, the spring musical debuting in early March. Already, a significant amount of people are planning on attending. All are very excited to see the cast as well as sing along to the songs.
The musical, directed by Mr. Steve Shannon and choreographed by Ms. Tara McSweeney, is sure to live up to the standards of all the musicals directed by this duo in the past. The cast is extensive, with talented individuals in leading roles, including Vicky Lynch as Elle Woods, Patrick Dwyer as Warner, Robert Morris as Emmett and Megan McHugh as Paulette. There are many talented actors in the production with roles as sorority girls, students at Harvard and members of the trial.
However; as stated by the director, Mr. Shannon, “this is not an easy show.” In his words, “This musical has a huge score and there is a great deal of effort that needs to be put in to make sure the whole show runs smoothly. Although; even though there is a huge amount of rehearsing, this will be a very fun show.”
When asked what the audience would enjoy most, Vicky Lynch said, “The audience will really like the appeal ‘Legally Blonde’ has to the young adult age group. It's a very funny and energetic show, but it also has scenes that parents, grandparents, and kids can enjoy.”
The whole cast of “Legally Blonde” has been working very hard, and the effort is paying off. They are excited for the score, the dances and even the props and costumes. Overall, there is great anticipation and enthusiasm as the date of the show approaches.
